Albrecht II
“He could hardly concern himself with the kingdom.”
Born on the 16th of August 1397, he was already at the age of seven Albrecht V: Duke of Austria, since 1411 he ruled independently. He came to the point of the throne in 1421 through an arranged marriage with Elisabeth, the daughter of King Sigismunds, whose close ally he became. With varied success Albrecht fought against the Hussites und saw himself opposed to new struggles, when he who in 1433 was crowned King Sigismund died in 1437 and the German leaders chose him as king in 1438. Having become in the meantime also king in Ungarn and Bohemia (likewise in 1438), the time did not once allow for his coronation, for the ruler had to immediately hurry to Ungarn for the defense against the Turk, but where he found more opposition than help from the leaders of the land. Before he could remedy the situation, Albrecht died on the 27th of October, 1439 in Langendorf (Neszmèly).
